History

Nature first

Everyone who finds its way to us is passing a wonderful alley full of trees and is welcomed by our green farmhouse – our imprint. Under its roof now lives the third generation of Backensholzer.

Once the farm was a traditional dairy farm.

Since 1989 – after the accident of tschernobyl – the farm is run organically and controlled by Bioland.

1991 we founded our raw-milk-creamery and started to make cheese. Our first cheese was the “Hofkäse”, followed by “Husumer” and “Deichkäse” – all of these three are still made and well liked. In the following years the farm and the dairy grew together and became a unique unit.

2002 a biogas plant was built. We aim to run the farm in economical and ecological circles. We can now produce warmth and electricity for the dairy with the leftover feed and other organic waste from the farm.

Nowadays we milk more than 300 cows and from season to season we produce up to 15 different kinds of cheese, butter and fresh cheese. We decided that the meat production would fit well into our organism so we breed a very old variety of pigs – called “Husumer Protestschwein” and feed them with whey from the cheese production.
